Professor Francisco Leyva-León is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, and Professor of Cardiology at Aston University. With over 30 years of expertise, he is dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients with a wide range of heart conditions.

Areas of Specialisation

He specialises in managing heart failure, cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias, and cardiac device therapies, including pacemakers, cardiac resynchronisation therapy, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). He also has extensive experience in cardiovascular MRI and cardiac CT imaging, ensuring precise diagnosis and treatment planning.

Education, Training, and Research

Graduating from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1994, Mr. Camprodon moved to the UK in 1998 to pursue surgical training, earning a Master’s Degree in Surgical Sciences (MSc) and completing a post-CCT fellowship in Bariatric and Antireflux Surgery. In 2019, he received a PhD in Small Bowel Transplant Immunology for groundbreaking research in collaboration with the University of SheffieldKing’s College London, and his alma mater.

 

Mr. Camprodon received two prestigious international awards for his laboratory-based research in Small Bowel Transplant Immunology at the renowned International Small Bowel Transplant Symposium (ISBTS), part of The Transplantation Society (TTS), held in Washington in 2011 and Oxford in 2013.

Professional Affiliations and Leadership

As a past President of the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (BSCMR), he has played a key role in advancing cardiac imaging. He has also advised NICE on national guidelines for heart failure, cardiac devices, and drug therapies and has contributed to the European Society of Cardiology’s clinical guidelines committees.

 

In addition to his NHS role, Professor Leyva-León offers private consultations at Little Aston Hospital, The Priory Hospital, and The Harborne Hospital in Birmingham.
